Creative Kids

Weaving Connections works with local schools and community groups to deliver creative programs that specialise in woven arts, basketry, natural fibres and plant-based organic dyes.

Kim weaves environmental education into programs to teach sustainability and up cycling to encourage waste reduction.

Over the past 7 years, Weaving Connections has established a successful educational program that facilitates practical skills development, environmental and cultural conservation and helps build self-awareness through creative expression.

Founded by artist Kim Tait, Weaving Connections delivers programs that impart ancient knowledge of natural fibres, harvesting skills and weaving techniques from across the world, encouraging an understanding and appreciation of the importance of traditional cultural diversity and knowledge.

Through engagement with their local environment students develop an awareness of the versatility of the natural world.

School and /or out of school weekend Programs

Individual programs are designed appropriate to the age and capabilities of students in grasping the principles of various weaving practices.

From the garden to the basket, educational programs offered by Weaving Connections are tailored to complement class curriculum.

Students are encouraged to use their imagination to innovate the practical application of various techniques and seek new and different ways of using the skills and materials. Bush craft develops an individuals ability to adapt and improvise this in turn leads to increased self- esteem.

Weaving has a therapeutic meditative and beneficially calming effect through the very nature of it being a creative, tactile, focused and repetitive activity. Quiet self-reflections occurs when one is deeply engaged with the task at hand.

Team building skills are developed with large scale group/whole school sculptural projects.
