Creative Kids

Within the Kids weaving program Kim teaches local fibre identification, harvest, preparation and use, string making, rattan and vine basketry, woven pandanus bracelets, random weave garlands, and creative bush craft. The program has been designed to incorporate and acknowledge the seasonal and cyclic turning of the year and the markers of time. 

Kim is a qualified counsellor and has many year’s experience working with community groups, and schools to create engaging learning spaces for a range of ages from 6 or 7 years upwards.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES 

 

  • To teach practical weaving, basketry and fibre techniques to students in schools 
  • To provide engaging activities that immerse students in the natural environment 
  • To facilitate cross cultural dialogue & exchange 
  • To empower the individual learning needs of each student 
  • To create socially & culturally inclusive educational programs 
  • To promote & preserve traditional knowledge of weaving, basketry & fibre 
  • To engage students in a positive, safe, creative & focused learning environment
